My
Story

This is a medium shot photo of Nicole Maitland with her hair down and wearing a blue and white striped shirt.

I'm Nicole- lover of dogs, coffee, and intentionally aimless wandering.

I worked as a lawyer for five and a half years in New Zealand, in various roles involving criminal law and human rights. By the start of 2022, I had hit serious burnout. I had been existing in a state of chronic stress for years, which I was only able to see after it was too late.

My story also includes a chunk of grief, with the death of my dad when I was 26, followed by losing all four of my grandparents in the next three years.

It felt like everything had come crashing down around me before I'd hit 30. I didn't know what I was meant to do with this reality- but I felt like it had to get better. I trusted that one day life could feel sparkly again.

Within two years of burnout I have created a life that involves working remotely as a slow traveller and digital nomad across the UK and Europe. This is a life that previous versions of myself had dreamed of, but never imagined I could ever make happen.

I went through a lot of healing, meltdowns, breakthroughs and personal growth- and I'm excited to be here to tell the tale.
